Expression and pose - emotions portrayed through photos.

For our photo project we chose one the fundamental elements of photography - expression and pose. Through this element we wanted to display emotions such as friendship, happiness, sadness / anxiety, moodiness etc.

Process :

The photo project was a dual project - done by me, Maria Pop and Elin Dofeldt

We photographed all of our models in the same location, a small park. The photos were taken over the course of a week, due to timing, changes in presentation and editing. The process was over all fine, a little frustrating at times because portraying emotions can be difficult as we did not want to present only shallow and on the surface emotions and our models were friends, not necessarily qualified to act, however in the end all of the emotions were very well portrayed in the photos.

Our photos are all black and white, as we wanted the background colors to be irrelevant and have focus on the subject, the models. The black and white allows for an in depth view of the emotions.

Our models wore whatever they wanted, as emotions are not tied to our style or clothing, we wanted them to feel comfortable and be themselves in order to achieve the most authentic portrayal.

Happiness :

Companionship :

Nonchalant ( feeling or appearing casually calm and relaxed; not displaying anxiety, interest, or enthusiasm.) :

Moody ( described by the average teenager as not being in the mood or being pissed/grumpy due to the fact that we are teenagers ) :

Wonder :

Anxiety and sadness - although these are separate emotions one can lead to the other and both cause pain.
