The Process of Creating the Preliminary Work

Updated: Nov 4, 2019

For my preliminary work I created a montage using the song Just Me and You by The Dreamliners and a vinyl cover.

The process:

Creating the montage seemed daunting at first, however as I hadn't edited videos yet I used a simpler editing tool - iMovie. The process proved to be simpler after figuring out the basic tools of the app.

Filming was very entertaining and fulfilling. Directing the model was very interesting as I had to make sure that everything was reflecting the style I wanted to created.

I am the one in the floral robe. In these images I am showing the model how to pose and use the props ( the Chanel perfume and red lipstick ).

I created many videos the montage, I ended up using around 8 clips in the end.

For all of the clips I used the filter 'Aged Film' and the only transition and effect I used was the one in the last clip which is called 'Circle Close', which I used to mimic old Hollywood movies.

I implemented the song by downloading it as a mp3 onto my computer and then inserting it in iMovie.

I like the finished montage, however I am now able to recognize some mistakes that I made and now have room for improvement. Eg. mistakes ( filming some videos horizontally and some vertically - which wouldn't be able to be put together while editing, I didn't use many conventions such as cutting to the beat or mimicking the lyrics etc. )

For the vinyl cover I did a photoshoot after doing the montage. I wanted a matching style and so I wanted the model to have the same costume for one of the images and then another costume for the back cover.

Initially I did 3 photoshoots but only used photos from 2 of them as the other one did not match the style that I wanted.

I edited them simply using the Photo app from Mac, as I wanted just a simple black and white filter.

I created the vinyl in Illustrator. I also downloaded a few fonts as I wasn't satisfied with the ones provided by Illustrator. I downloaded them from the website dafont.com

I ended up using the font from Illustrator for the front cover (Pharamount Personal Use Only)

and for the back cover I used Bodoni 72 Smallcaps Book. I think this shows how things don't always turn out how you planned or expected them to. I downloaded fonts and ended up not using either of them.

This is the process that I faced when I created the preliminary work
